Thanks to our incredibly generous community, we purchased our first dragon boats in April 2019 in Vancouver, British Columbia. We were on the water by late May, we celebrated the “Awakening of the Dragons” ceremony in June, we trained and competed hard all summer and we had a BLAST! We ended the season in September with a magical moonlight paddle, which will become an annual event, for sure. And in 2020, we hope to double the number of sisters that hoped in the boat- we had 40 ladies that paddled throughout the summer.
We continue our off-season training programs as we prepare for next year’s paddling season. Our mantra….EXERCISE IS MEDICINE.
Traditional cancer treatment often leaves survivors physically, mentally, and emotionally depleted. Dragon boat racing complements traditional cancer treatment by helping the participants rebuild wellness.
Silver Lining Foundation Montana’s dragon boat racing team will improve the well-being of Western Montana cancer survivors by:With your support, Western Montana cancer survivors will be stronger together!
The Silver Lining Sisterhood is entering into it’s fourth year. We are members of the International Breast Cancer Paddlers Commission as well as the Pacific Dragon Boat Federation. With the generosity of our community, we have been able to purchase our own two boats and we currently train on Salmon Lake. We are a sisterhood that appreciates the value of working together toward a common goal and studies have shown that regular exercise can reduce the rate of recurrence by 40%. As our numbers increase, so does our need to move forward with our mission. Your donation goes towards insurance, paddling clinics, coaching, Loft rental, regatta registration fees, offseason training programs, educational materials, paddles, lifejackets, etc.. We appreciate any support that aids in our mission of empowering breast cancer survivors….in mind, body and spirit.
